Abstract

This poster explores the growing digital divide in luxury fashion, where emerging technologies such as AR try-on tools, AI stylists, and virtual fashion collections are reshaping how consumers interact with brands—but not equitably. While these innovations offer convenience and creative expression, they often exclude marginalised communities due to limited digital access, tech literacy, and representational bias in design. Drawing on my research and teaching in luxury fashion strategy, this work critically evaluates how digital fashion experiences are shaping (and sometimes reinforcing) inequalities in access, representation, and participation. The poster highlights case studies from luxury brands experimenting with immersive retail technologies and contrasts them with consumer data from underrepresented groups, including Gen Z in lower-income or minority-majority boroughs of London. I argue for more inclusive innovation practices, including participatory design and community co-creation in digital fashion tools, to help create a fairer future for fashion consumption. This submission speaks to the UN SDGs on Reduced Inequalities (Goal 10), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (Goal 9), and Sustainable Cities and Communities (Goal 11), contributing to broader conversations around health, wellbeing, and cultural inclusion through creative and practice-based research in fashion.
